Flowers in oil

Those were done in around 2009.
For the longest time, I painted more realistically, spending a long time to articulate details and to wait for the paint to dry before putting another layer. However, all those paintings above were done within 2-3 hours. I had never tried painting on wet paint before, but I felt so compelled and fulfilled.

Painting more freely and expressively in a short time was a complete opposite from the characteristic of my typical painting style.  However, I felt those painting more honest. I believe that is why I felt enlightened.

In that year, I was lucky enough to have one of my pieces exhibited in NYC, and it gave me an excuse to visit there for the first time. Moreover, that was where I saw the Abstract Expressionism paintings in person. After that, I was never the same. This was where I started to branch out my art to abstract.

I love working on both realistic and abstract. It balances me out. I guess that is just being a human.
