オラクルカード”LOVE”のデザインです。
This is my second design of the Oracle Card Project,  a design for "LOVE".

ちょっと気に入っています。笑
I ended up liking this design.

ペン・インクに水彩は大好きな画材なのでこういったデザインにはぴったりだと思っています。
Pen&Ink and watercolour are one of my favourite combination to use, and I think they were perfect media for this kind of design.

オラクルカードのデザインはしばらく止まっています。汗
Unfortunately, this Oracle Card Project has been on hold.

2006年、大学学士号の最後の学期に描いた3連の作品です。
This was painted in the final year of my BFA program.

ようやく 油絵に本腰を入れ始めたころで、描いた当初は良い出来だと思ってましたが、
流石に子供が描いたような出来栄えですね、、、　冷汗
高校生の方がもっと上手い絵を描きますよね、、、、
This was around the time that I, finally, started to practice oil painting seriously. At that time, I thought this piece was of good quality. But now, it is clear to see it is not... High school students could paint so much better than this...lol 

でも何気に売れました。。。安価でしたが。。。笑
However, this piece was sold,,, well I sold it very cheap...

左のパネルの女性の天使は、よくデジタルの作品に使うのでよく出てきます。
I use the angel on the left panel, often for my digital pieces.

特に10代の女子を狙った性奴隷の人買い・人売りの問題が深刻なアメリカ社会。時に僕の住んでいるオクラホマ州はその交差点。

Human trafficking has been a serious issue that has been slowly recognized in the US. I heard Oklahoma, where I live, has been a crossroad of human trafficking. 

そのアウェアネスの為の展覧会に出した作品です。

This work was for an exhibition calling the awareness of human trafficking and its significant impact on victims and society. This problem had often been ignored. 

油絵で描いた人物画をもとに、写真などを合わせて作りました。

被害者の声のない叫びをテーマに題をつけました。

"find me" expresses the victims' desperate hope. The figure was originally painted in oil on a ceramic tile. Then I combine it with other paintings, photos, and drawings on Photoshop.

展覧会に出した作品は、このプリントに沢山の目とを描いて、黒で何個所かを塗りつぶし、その絵ごとグシャグヤに丸めてしわを付けました。

For the exhibition, I printed it out and painted several eyes, using a thick application of black painting. Then I made whole paper into a ball like trash, then open it again to form wrinkles as if the piece was older (victims have been forgotten). 

それをシャドウボックスに入れて展示しました。

Finally, the piece was placed in a shadowbox (confinement) and displayed.

2008年に天国に行ったゆいこの為に作った記念碑です。

This was for a memorial piece of Yuiko who past away in 2008. 

3連で3種類のデジタル画を使いました。それぞれのパネルの枠に, 友達の話してくれたゆいこの物語を描きました。

This is a tryptic piece and used 3 different digital artwork. Each panel has a different story of Yuiko both sides of the frame.

左のパネルにはゆいこが初めて飼い主の所に来た日。

右にはゆいこが突然いなくなり、6週間後に奇跡的に戻ってきた話。そして真ん中はゆいこが天国へ旅立った時の話。

The left panel has a story of when Yuiko first came to his soon to be a dad. The right panel tells a story of when Yuiko went missing for 6 weeks and returned almost dead. The centre panel commemorates Yuiko's earthly departure.

友達の家には今でもゆいこの部屋が設けられていて、そこにこれは飾られています。

3角形にもなり、中に光を入れれば灯篭のようにもなります。

This piece has been displayed at a Yuiko's room at my friend's house. The shape can be changed to a triangle shape, and you can put a light source inside.

FF VI

To Narche

何年か前に友達が指揮したビデオゲーム関係の展覧会に出した作品です。

僕の描きたかったテーマは勿論FF。特にファミコン、スーファミ時代のFFが好きです。

This piece was for a video game-themed exhibition, curated by one of my good artist friends. As an 80-90s kid, I picked Final Fantasy. I love the FF series in Nintendo-Super Nintendo era.  

結局FFシリーズはI~VII までしかプレーしたことがなく、、、

ってか その後はあまり興味が無くなった。。。

I have only played FF I~VII, then I kind of lost interests after that...lol 

FFIVに続いてのお気に入りであるVI。

My all-time favourite is FFIV, then VI.

英語版ではテラ（Terra）になっていますが、これはティナという名前が英語圏では平凡であり過ぎであるため、セリス（Celes）と対応した大地や地球を意味するテラになったそうです。セレスはCelestialから天を意味する　

言葉です。

Terra is my favourite character in VI. Tina is the original name in the Japanese version. However, I read somewhere that Tina is a common name in the English-speaking nations. So, they changed it to something more mysterious or just different. I thought Terra (earth) was a great choice, accompanying to Celes (Celis in Japanese), which symbolise heaven.

ティナが一番のお気に入りです。

妹の旦那がFFVIのファンだと聞いたので、今度返る時はまだ新築祝いを挙げてなかったので良い額に入れて贈呈したいと思っています。

My sister told me that her husband loves the FFVI. So, I am planning to put this work in a nice frame and give it to them as a housewarming gift.

僕のベッドルームで飾る場所もなく眠っている絵です。

主題は勿論ルシファー。

古代の金星の神で光をつかさどります。

This painting is sleeping in my bedroom without a space to hang on a wall. Theme is, of course, Lucifer, who symbolize the light as well as knowledge for some brief system.

今回は光と闇（相対する2つの属性）をテーマに描きました。

This painting (obviously) represents the light and darkness. 

前に大学の授業で少しだけ調べたのですが、

”陰”という言葉は、昔は光という意味も含んでいたそうです。

I have researched little bit about the origin of  ”陰”(shadow)

 before for one of my art class. The word actually include the meaning of light as well.

光があるところには影ができる。

逆に影ができるのであれば、それはどこからか光が当たっているということ。

結局は光と影は表裏一体のもの。特に西洋の文化は宗教の影響も大きく光と闇＝正義と悪とを完全に分ける傾向があります。分けてしまえば理解するのは簡単ですからね。しかし人間というものはそんな単純なものではないということ。

If there is light, then there will be a shadow. If there is a shadow, then there will be light.  Fundamentally, those two opposite elements cannot be separated. It is like us. As being human, we are all constructed with both qualities of light and shadow, good and bad. Particularly in the Western culture derived from the religious dogma, they tend to separate them entirely for which it is easier for us to understand. However, the human is not that simple.

ディズ二―とジブリの映画を比べてみてもよくわかると思いますが、ディズニー映画のほとんどに悪役は悪役とでしか表現されません。しかしジブリ映画はそれが曖昧で、完全な悪役がとても少ないのが特徴です。

For example, Disney and Studio Ghibli are a good example. Disney tends to separate good and evil entirely to create drama. On the other hand, Studio Ghibli's movies often avoid framing a character a complete evil.

 

 大きさから言ってほぼ等身大の絵です。僕としては悪魔の方が気に入っています。

 This is a life-size painting, and I personally love the demon side of this painting.

壁画#1

 大学の元教授とは仲も良く、学生時代から良く壁画の仕事の助手をしています。

I have a great friendship with my former university professor/mentor who introduced me to the world of mural painting. He often hires me as one of his assistants to paint.  

これは僕が描いた壁画の一つです。

バックグラウンドは教授が描きました。

This is one of my works in Vinita, Oklahoma. My professor painted the background. 

親子のカウボーイで牛を縄で捕まえる訓練をしています。

They are cowboys, father and son. 

書いた人物は実際の依頼主なので、似てるように描かなくてはいけないというプレッシャーもあり注意して描きました。

Those two are the client and his son, which the father preaches in this cowboy church. I was a little bit nervous and painted carefully to make them look alike. 

僕の住んでいる所から車で4-5時間となり2-3日の泊りがけの仕事でしたが、この依頼主（カウボーイ教会の教主）で、その教会所属のシェフの料理がものすごくおいしくて思い出の多い滞在となりました。、数年たった今でもこのシェフの料理は話の話題になっています。

This place was about 4-5 hours away (by car) from my city. So, we stayed for several days. The cook at the church was fantastic, and we all enjoyed her cooking, which we still talk about her and her delicious meal.

3-4時間ほどで描いた絵で、ふと思い立って計画もろくに立てずにただ描いた絵です。

大学に寄付しました。

This was painted spontaneously and completed in about 4 hours.

気づいたら同じような絵を描いていました。

これもアクリルだったこともあり短時間で描いた絵です。

僕のベッドルームに飾ってあります。

This is also a similar painting but done in acrylic. It is hanged on my bedroom wall because of the colours.

この絵はどちらとも大きな写実主義スタイルの絵を完成させた後に描いた絵です。時間と忍耐力のがかかる手法とバランスをとるように、心の赴くままに絵を描くのも本当に達成感があります。

小さなシャドウボックスも よく使っていたアイテムの一つです。

ガラスをバックグラウンドに配置したので黒い鏡のようになっています。

作品の題が示すように、幸せというのはあなたの精神次第ということで、”気づく”ことにあると思っています。

人は自分の持っていないもの、不幸だということに精神を集中しがちだったりします。でも自分と自分の周りをよく見つめて、今自分が持っているものを考えてみれば、大抵の場合は、そんなに不幸なことでもないことにも気づいたりするものです。

他にも不幸なことは自分だけに起きているものではないということ、誰にでも起こること、そして自分ではどうしようもないことも起こるということを理解していることが大切です。

どうしようもできないものだったら、落ち込んでも仕方ないのかもしれません。。。

生きている以上前に進むしかないでしょう。 

そんなことを人生通して学び続けるんだと思います。

バックの写真は、最後に帰った2010年の春。

近くにある桜と菜の花の名所でとった写真です。油絵で描いたヘレル・ベン・シャハルの悪魔の姿を使いました。人物画の中でも気に入っている中の一つです。

Oracle Card: Cover

 昔、友達にオラクルカードのデザインを依頼された時に最初に描いたカードの裏のデザインです。

Several years ago, one of my high school friends asked me to design a set of oracle cards. This design was for the face of every card. 

残念ながらその友達とも連絡が段々なくなりカードのデザインも19で止まっています。

Unfortunately, I lost contact with my friend. I have done 19 design, and this project has been on pause. 

今思えば、このデザインもカードとしてはいまいちのような気がします。。。汗 

I have my doubt if this is good enough for a card design, but I like it as an art piece....lol

To Make Heaven of Hell

5枚のパネルに分かれた特大の絵です。

This is a large piece, consisting of 5 panels: 96"x84". 

勿論、大きすぎるので売れ残り、今では家のクローゼットで眠っています。

This piece is also leftover and has not been sold yet. As big as it is, this piece is sleeping in my closet. 

何気に好きな絵なので、もし大きな家に移ることがあったら飾ろうかとも思っています。

もし家に大きな壁があってこの絵に興味のある方が居たら教えてください。

This was actually my way of a solution to paint a large scale painting without worrying about carrying it with my car. One day, if I were to live in a big house, I would hang this on a wall. However, if anyone is interested in this piece, let me know!

絵の題は何年も前に見た”夏の夜の夢”を題材にした映画の音楽からインスピレーションをもとに描きました。

ミケランジェロの”創造”を取り込んだのは分かりやすいかもしれません。

The inspiration of this piece is varied; Creation by Chagall, video games, Kandinsky, Dali, and Michelangelo, . 

キリスト教を題材にすることは多いですが、僕が決してキリスト教であるということではありません。

むしろ反宗教派なので、異教とを織り交ぜて絵の題にすることが多いです。

Many of my pieces may be particular in Christianity. However, I am not Christian nor faithful to a specific religion. My works are often a combination of different belief systems.

しかし、平和や救いを願う心はどの宗教でもそして人間として自然なことであるのも確かです。

宗教は存在していたものではなく人によって作られたもの。

神様も人の作り出した抽象でしかない存在。

I want to believe that the foundation of any religious system is to create a peaceful order in a society. However, we should be reminded that religion is an artificial product. God is, as abstract as it is, created (imaginary) by a human.

In result, it is unfortunate that religions have been appropriated throughout our history to serve for the ever-changing human ego and thirst for power.

でも僕らは神様に祈り続けることを止めないのも確かなことです。

However, it is a fact that we cannot help praying for our salvation and peace.

アセンブリッジでそこら辺にあるもので作った作品です。

This is an assemblage piece. 

シャドウボックスは好きなマテリアルの一つでよく使います。

Shadowbox is one of my favorite materials to use. 

夜空に宇宙を見る少年をテーマに、小さいころに感じた冬の空の荘厳さ、透き通った空気と夜空に宇宙が今にも見えるかのように感じたことを思い出して作りました。

The theme is about a boy looking up the night sky.  My favourite season has always been winter. The crystal clear air and night sky ever made me as if I was looking at a universe beyond the starry night sky. 

小さな電球も入っているので暗闇の中では下のようになります。

I added small lights at bottom.

今のところこの種の作品はこれだけですが、何とかモチベーションを挙げて、また芸術家業を復活させたいと思っています。その中でもこういった作品をもっと作っていきたいと思っています。
