侍と芸子

この2つの絵は、アメリカに住んでいた時に友達がラーメン屋をオープンするということで、そのオープニングの為に描いた絵です。

Those 2 paintings were painted for the opening of my friends' new ramen shop when I lived in the US.

僕の悪い癖は、顔に時間かけるくせにその後はどうでもよくなってしまうことが多いこと。

I usually take a longer time for the faces. Then, often, I lose interests in the painting after, which has been one of my bad habits. And it happened to those paintings.

どちらとも体の方にもう少し時間をかけて、バックグランドももう少し計画的に描けばよかったと今でも後悔しています。

I regret that I should have taken more time to finish up both bodies and clothing, as well as planning a better background.

どちらとも大きな絵なので、アメリカを去る前に勤めていた大学に寄贈しました。

Both are large-sized paintings and I donated w,here I worked before I left the United States.

デジタルです。フォトショップさえあれば、今まで描いた絵や撮った写真などを組み合わせて、新し作品を創れる無限の可能性が広がります。

それには、その時に描いた絵や撮った写真の思いとは別なものを表現できるということでもあり、常に変わり続ける自己との会話や記録でもあります。

This is a digital piece. Photoshop is a fantastic medium to create an entirely new art piece from already existing artworks, which gives me an endless possibility.

This process adds layers to the old art pieces while preserving the emotion and thoughts at the time of creation, to new meaning and emotion, recording my ever-changing identity and everyday life experience.

高御産巣日神ー造化三神：日本神話の神々

さて、日本神話の神々シリーズの2作目は高御産巣日神。高木神とも呼ばれ、高い・古い木が神格化した神だと考えられているようでもあります。御神木という観念と木の属性を考えて、こういったデザインになりました。この神様が天皇の皇祖神であり、一般に信じられている天照大神ではありません。

This is the second piece of the Japanese Gods' series, Takami Musuhi no Kami. It is also called, Takagi no Kami (God of Tree). Some says this god appeared as the deification of a tall/old tree. I integrated the idea of a Shinboku/Divine tree (神木) into this design. 

When you visit Japan, especially in shrines, you might see a large old tree, fenced-in, and/or a rope with white paper is rolled around the tree. The rope is called Shimenawa 注連縄, and a white paper is called Shide ̪̪紙垂, presenting the tree (sometimes it is a large rock) as a sacred object or entity with the divine spirit. You also see that on the Torii Gate before entering the shrine, indicating it is a sacred place separating from outer-world.

諸説の中には高御産巣日神を男神、神産巣日神を女神とする見解もあるようですが、日本最古の歴史書である古事記には”独神”として紹介されています。こう言った性の割り振りは、現人神と信じられていた天皇一族を正当化するために、後に唱えられた説なのかもしれません。

There are some arguments about this god presents a male element. However, the Kojiki, the oldest Japanese (considered) historical texts, introduced Takami Musuhi no Kami as a genderless. I wonder, this perspective was added later to justify the divine right of the emperor family, since the family was believed to be a god in fresh.
