月野原　（Tsuki-Nohara）: 心はおいてきたのかもしれない。。。/I must have been left my heart...

去年の8月の始め、勤めていた大学の仕事を辞めてアメリカから撤退。向かうは、発表の為に生徒とボスを引き連れて国際博物館議会京都大会に。日本に帰る機会があると（17年の内5~6回しか帰れなかった。。😥）京都へ行く割合が高かったのですが。生まれは親の実家の鳥取で、育ったのは茨城。親の実家は鳥取の山の中で、それで海まで車で20分ほど。小学生の頃は毎年兄妹と1-2週間ほどおじいちゃんおばあちゃん家に遊びに行くのが楽しみの一つで、鳥取ってほんといいところだな～　って成長すればするほど好きさが増していったような気がします。（京都の話なのになんで鳥取にいくんだ。。。😦）

京都も行けば行くほど、年を取ればとるほど好きになって行って、2019年に京阪の電車の中で「日本に京都があってよかった」って広告を見てひとりで頷いてました。でも「暑い京都は上等だ」っという広告にはさすがに「すいません、勘弁してください。。。😅」。

僕と一緒に来た人たち皆、京都・日本に戻りたいって言ってます。

学会前の2週間は、終わってほしくなかったとても愛しい時間を過ごしました。

I resigned my previous job at the beginning of August in 2019 and escaped from the US. Then I landed in Kyoto, where my boss and I, as well as my students, were going to present at the largest international museum conference in the world. I love Kyoto more every time I visit. During the 17 years of the US, I returned to Japan only 5 or 6 times, but I visited Kyoto if I had a chance. I somehow have a special feeling towards western Japan because of Kyoto and Tottori.

My parents are both from Tottori, and I and my brother and sister visited our grandparents' house every summer when we were all in elementary school. All of us LOVE Tottori. The grandparents' place is in the mountains, but you can reach the ocean about 20 minutes drive. Tottori is a special place for my family.

When I was on a train in Kyoto last year, I saw an advertisement that says, "Thank God, Japan has Kyoto." I couldn't have agreed more though it was still hot and humid. Then I saw another ad, "Bring it on, hot Kyoto" or something on that line. Then I was, "NOPE." 😂

Everybody I know who went to Japan wants to go back.

Especially 2 weeks before the conference was extra special for me that I never wanted to end.💙

この学会には120の国々から約4600人が参加したとても大きな学会でした。

さすがは世界で最も大きな博物館議会。それと、これは日本の人気を物語るものでもあります。文化財や博物館学会はUNESCOの世界遺産が17、そして何百の神社や寺がある京都は最高の舞台となりました。

This was a humongous conference, which almost 4600 participants from 120 countries and territories. Of course, the ICOM is the world's largest museum organization, but also, it shows the world's fascination towards Japan. Kyoto was such a perfect place to host such conference, considering the 17 UNESCO World Heritage sites and hundreds of shrines, temples, and museums.

学会では、50近くのエクスカージョンと呼ばれる遠足やワークショップなどが関西一体に計画されており、自分の好きなものを選んでいくことができます。

In this conference, almost 50 excursions were offered, and you can choose which one you want to participate. The excursions included a greater area of western Japan.

僕は、友達やボスと一緒に姫路城へ。日本の城へ入ったのはこれが初めて。圧巻でした。

I joined the trip to the Himeji Castle (known for the most beautiful Japanese castle) with my friends. It was my very first time to be in one of the Japanese castles. I was so impressed by the beauty and the scale of it.

日本の「おもてなし」は世界でも知られていますが、毎日の学会と、毎晩のイベント、どれも夢のようで、学会を計画、そして運営してくださった日本の皆様には本当に頭が下がり続ける思いでした。

Japan is known for its hospitality, and this conference was the exact representation of that. I cannot imagine to plan, set up, and manage this scale of events for a week. I am simply grateful for those who worked tirelessly to make this conference such unforgettable and mesmerizing.

最後の晩は京都国立博物館での閉会パーティー。

Last evening, a party at the Kyoto National Museum.

写真では人がいないように見えますが、物凄い人でいた。着物を着ている参加者も結構いました。綺麗な夕陽を見ながら、気持ちの良い空間の中でゆったりとした時間が流れました。ボスと生徒としばしの別れを惜しみ、またいつか会う約束を交わしました。

It doesn't look like there are many people, but it was packed. I saw several groups who were wearing kimono for the occasion. It was a beautiful evening with wonderful friends (old and new). I had to say bye to my boss and my students, at least, for a while...

そして翌日は、次なるセミナーの会場、慶応大学へとむけて東京へ移ることとなります。

Next day, I headed to Keio University in Tokyo for the seminar and another presentation.
